Komjáthi Tamásné

KomjáthinéI was born in Szekszárd in 1958. I have been active in weaving since 1977, and have been learning the techniques and traditions of homespun textiles of the Sárköz. I was pattern specialist, later pattern and artistic director at the Sárköz Folk Arts and Crafts Cooperative, and got to know the wealth of homespun heritage of the region in the process. I was named folk arts and crafts master in 1987.

I have participated in a number of regional and national fairs and competitions over the past three decades. I have twice received the Sárköz memorial prize in the national homespun competition, as well as the silver plaque of the National Folk Art Fair. The Alliance of Folk Arts and Crafts Associations awarded me the Király Zsiga Award in 2006 in recognition of my work in the field of folk art.

I have had the good luck to represent Hungarian homespun traditions in Canada, Poland, Italy and France. Some of my work has made it into the national pattern archive. My ornamental and dress homespun are made out of natural materials, mainly relying on the homespun traditions of the Sárköz region.
